Programme: Suite from L’Histoire du soldat, Ragtime, Suite from the ballet Pulcinella, Three Pieces for String Quartet, Pour Picasso
Besides the obvious historical and stylistic parallels (the mutability of styles, the discovery of neoclassicism), there are important constructive features in the style of both masters that make them akin. In Stravinsky one can see the fixing of a horizontal shift — in the accentual structure of rhythm — and of a vertical one — in harmony. In Picasso, an important role in his works is played by the fixing of a shift of the phase of vision, which makes it possible to see an object from several sides at once.
