20 March 2026
The Department of Contemporary Music
holds an Open Session
for the anniversary of the Department’s professor, Doctor of Arts
Svetlana Ilyinichna SAVENKO
An outstanding musicologist of world renown and a singer who introduced Russian audiences to masterpieces of vocal music of the past and present centuries (including music written specially for her), Svetlana Ilyinichna Savenko is a unique example of a scholar in whom theory and practice are united: a deep interest in the most complex music-theoretical matters of new and newest music combines with the exceptional sensitivity of a performing musician.
Savenko’s fundamental contribution to musicology is her work on Igor Stravinsky. At the same time, Svetlana Ilyinichna, always responsive to what is truly talented in musical art, revealed to Russian listeners the work of a number of Russian composers of the second half of the 20th century who have entered music history and already become its classics. Svetlana Ilyinichna’s works have long been recognised as a benchmark of true scholarship, and the courage and independence of her creative personality make her an ethical tuning fork of our time.
