At the Edge of the Oikumene

April 29 | 19:00 DOM Cultural Centre, 24 bld. 4, Bolshoy Ovchinnikovsky Lane
Moscow, Russia
HAZINA is a unique ethnic ensemble from the Republic of Bashkortostan. Its members master the art of folk singing, including throat singing, and play national instruments (kurai, dumbyra, kyl-kubyz and others). The ensemble performs ethnic music and original compositions in which Bashkir folklore meets the present day.

At the concert the HAZINA ensemble will present an original composition, “Дала ауазы” (“Voice of the Steppe”), and arrangements of folk songs:
• «Ҡуңыр буға»
• «Ишбирҙе ҡасҡын»
• «Бала ҡарға»
• «Ҡырҡты кәкүге»
• «Урал бәйете»
• «Ҡара тауык»
• «Йүккәкүр генәйем»
• «Гөлләлә»

In the second half, soloists of the Studio for New Music and the HAZINA ensemble will present an improvisational score by the Mongolian author Erdenebayar Bumdar. The composition is written for European academic and Bashkir national instruments and is based on aleatoric technique — a contemporary technique similar to folk improvisation. Besides the ethnic instruments, the score owes its national colour to non-European modes and characteristic rhythms.
