A typewriter, washbasins, a saw and even a wet rag – these are the objects the Studio for New Music ensemble presented at its exhibition at the Artemiev art space. Together with the Centre for Contemporary Music of the Moscow Conservatory, the ensemble is celebrating its 30th anniversary this season. The objects gathered by curator Alexandra Kobrina and the festival team are not even quite ready-mades, but real musical instruments. The ringing sound of water dripping from a rag is the main element of a piece by the Austrian composer Peter Ablinger, while washbasins play an important role in Venedikt Peunov’s piece based on the children’s poetic masterpiece “Moidodyr”.
