Ligeti – “the Father of Microtonality”? (online)
2023 marks the centenary of the birth of one of the most brilliant creators of New Music, the composer György Ligeti. His intellectualism, sense of the contemporary, humour and consummate compositional craftsmanship still astonish professionals and music lovers alike. A brilliant master of writing and sonic inventiveness, Ligeti constantly renewed his musical language, which is reflected in the way he himself graphically represented his work.
The conference is devoted to every aspect of Ligeti’s inexhaustibly multifaceted personality: his work as a composer, his music-analytical activity and his achievements as a teacher.
Main topics of the conference:
the structural foundations of Ligeti’s works and his compositional technique;
Ligeti as musicologist;
Ligeti’s music theatre;
Ligeti’s orchestra;
intertextual tendencies in Ligeti’s work;
Ligeti as teacher;
Ligeti and the music of the 1970s–1980s.
Venue of the conference: Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (Moscow, 13/6 Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street).
