SUMMARY:Time to Hear
DESCRIPTION:Concert and presentation of the almanac on new music “Time to Hear / Hear the Time” \nProgramme: music by H. Lachenmann\, V. Genin\, A. Khasanshin\, Yu. Vinogradov \nPerformers: Natalia Cherkasova\, Daria Lutsenko\, Valeria Dolgushina\, Yuri Vinogradov\, Farkhad Bakhtiyari \n\nIn 2023 the Centre for Contemporary Music of the Moscow Conservatory and the Studio for New Music ensemble\, jointly with the Union of Composers of Russia and with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation\, published the first issue of the almanac on new music “Time to Hear / Hear the Time”. A publication of this kind had long been discussed in the professional community. Of course\, other periodicals also cover questions of current composition. But an almanac that would gather the whole palette of new music and bring together substantial analytical texts\nby authors directly involved in the creation and performance of new music was needed. As early as the 2000s\, Boris Jurgenson\, secretary of the Union of Composers and organiser of the first international composers’ competition in Russia\, proposed the idea of issuing at least a bulletin devoted to the life of the Union of Composers\, modelled on the publications of composers’ organisations in other countries. \nNow\, thanks to the support of the Union of Composers of Russia\, this idea has come to life at a completely different qualitative level\, in different conditions and by a different generation of music professionals. New information technologies that unite the world have allowed us to create something far more significant than just a magazine about composers for composers. Our almanac “Time to Hear” will allow all lovers of contemporary music to find under one virtual cover the full range of materials on composition in Russia today. \nOn 11 December the almanac team will give a presentation of the publication. The meeting will also feature music by composers whose names appear in the fourth issue\, devoted to the problem of narrative in music. They are Helmut Lachenmann — this year’s jubilarian and the subject of an interview by Ilya Ovchinnikov; Vadim Genin — winner of the Union of Composers of Russia’s “Notes and Quotas” programme in 2025 and the subject of an interview by Daria Lutsenko; Azamat Khasanshin — the subject of Farkhad Bakhtiyari’s conversation about Tatar and Bashkir contemporary music; and Yuri Vinogradov — author of an essay on narrative in music published in the fourth issue of the almanac\, a philosopher\, improvising pianist\, sound producer and host of the Telegram channel on the philosophy of music “Mechanics of Sound”. \nThe almanac team:\nEditor-in-chief — Fyodor Sofronov\nManaging editor — Maria Nevidimova\nEditor — Alina Moiseeva\nWebsite editor — Gleb Chuchalin\nHead of the Centre for Contemporary Music — Evgenia Izotova\nNews authors: Vera Esaulkova\, Stanislava Vyatkina\, Vladimir Pechetov\, Maria Sidorovich \n
