Composer evening of Wang Chenxu (China)
Wang Chenxu is a composer of the new generation from China. A prizewinner of first prizes at international competitions and the youngest recipient in history of China’s highest musical award, the “Golden Bell”, he writes music that combines the Eastern aesthetics of emptiness with Western structural rigour and demonstrates the broad possibilities of cultural synthesis.
Wang Chenxu graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. Since 2023 he has been furthering his studies under Professor Yuri Sergeyevich Kasparov. Wang Chenxu’s works have been performed at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in China, broadcast on CCTV and noted by more than 40 leading media outlets. The British composer James MacMillan remarked: “I want more people to hear his music.” In Wang Chenxu’s output, which comprises over 20 chamber works, 2 concertos, 2 symphonies and an opera, the philosophical concept of “organic transcultural synthesis” is developed.
Between 2023 and 2025 the composer created 15 works that reinterpret Chinese traditions through the prism of the Russian school of composition. The concert will give the world premiere of seven large-scale chamber works from this cycle.
