On 28 November at 12:00 in the Conference Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the new book “Vladimir Gorlinsky. In Pursuit of Light. A Journey through the Ensemble” was presented. The book tells the story of a piece Gorlinsky created for the Union of Composers of Russia’s “Notes and Quotas” programme, for the 30th anniversary of the Studio for New Music ensemble.

Texts by the composer and essays by Anton Svetlichny, Fyodor Sofronov, Vladimir Zhalnin and Evgenia Izotova, as well as interviews by Maria Nevidimova and Alina Moiseeva, explore the music from different points of view – those of the composer, the performer, the listener and the analyst. Design by Grigory Zhukov and original illustrations by Danya Fisko complete the journey into the composer’s musical world.

The presentation was preceded by an awards ceremony for the winners of the 3rd International Musicological Competition “Muzykalnaya Akademiya”, hosted by Yaroslav Timofeev, editor-in-chief of the journal “Muzykalnaya Akademiya”. This year, contemporary music is one of the main subjects of the entrants’ research. As a postlude, Olga Galochkina, soloist of the Studio for New Music ensemble, performed a new version of Vladimir Gorlinsky’s “Orphic Songs”.
